Thank you so much for reading the fic and for the feedback. I love those early seasons, too, and I really liked the way those two eps were constructed. I thought what Angel did was absolutely right, and I was glad that both Wesley and Buffy, who had equal reason to resent him helping Faith, ended up agreeing with him and helping to save her - and I thought it was a real credit to the writing - and to Eliza Dushku's amazing performance, that showed how conflicted Faith was - that we also wanted her to be saved. And Angel *did* risk his life to save Wesley and did, I thought, all the right things. It was just what Angel said to Buffy and Wesley that was tactless and insensitive, whereas someone else could have done the good deed without making them feel as if he didn't care about their ordeal. They had both suffered considerably at Faith's hands, and he handled his acknowledgement of that very badly. The difference between them being, of course, that Buffy got a proper apology whereas Wesley just sucked it up as usual and ended up giving Angel affirmation. *g*
I actually love that Angel is crap at the person-to-person stuff a lot of the time, despite being generally as noble and good as Wesley thinks he is. But I was also very glad when Gunn turned up and brought his whole 'Don't go hitting me again' equally alpha male perspective to the table. I think Angel Investigations really needed someone in that group who wouldn't put up with Angel smacking him around for his own good, and would belt him right back. But, of course, that was probably why Angel accepted Gunn as a family member and would have risked his life for him, but never really loved him (IMO), because Gunn wouldn't just love him unconditionally, whatever he did, the way Wesley and Cordy did. :)
Thank you again for the comment. It is a lovely thing to receive. :)
