The Doctor Who Fan's Phrasebook

This made me absolutely howl. Although it's written about Doctor Who fandom, much of it applies just as well to so many others:

The Doctor Who Fan's Phrasebook

I have definitely been some of those fans and used some of those annoying phrases!

Oh, and as far as Doctor Who goes, I would count as:

“I've been a Doctor Who fan since the 1960s.”
I am 43 and can just about remember Patrick Troughton.

Well, 41, but close enough. I really only remember Tomb of the Cybermen - which absolutely terrified my brother and me, although I've watched all the Patrick Troughton eps still available since on VHS, but Jon Pertwee was 'my' doctor when I was growing up. (I had a big crush on Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart, which is just sad.) I pitched a big hissy fit about Tom Baker taking over and so didn't get to see some of the amazing episodes from that era until years later on video. When my father died, my mother and I realized that 'Doctor Who' was the ultimate comfort television and we bought every episode available on VHS and pigged out on it. It was the best possible therapy and I recommend it to anyone.

“By making the Doctor explicitly heterosexual, Russell T Davies has taken away a role model for anyone who is uncertain about their sexuality.”

More like I completely failed to pay attention to any scene in New Who featuring the Doctor and Captain Jack. Or the Doctor and the Master.

Oh, god, I've used some of these. Especially when I was being wanky during SG-1's seasons 4, 5, 6 and season 7.

Stateside we got episodes a few years after the fact, so I remember Jon Pertwee well, too. I recall him very fondly, though I did love Tom Baker as well. I used those episodes as therapy too, and I can wholeheartedly second your recommendation.
