I've adored every moment of this journey; laughed and wept at the powerful images you've put in my head of a younger Wesley. The vulnerability of the child translated so well to the man.
I do like your take on Wes and Angel's relationship - how Wesley can see the usefulness of Angel in a way Giles never did.
The fatherly feelings of Giles did make me cry quite a bit, I'm a bit of a sucker for hurt/comfort and this was just the right sort.
I'm desperate to read more of the story - but you left it in a good place - Wesley realizes he's going to be accepted as a friend.
