Everything is great, thank you. I'm very excited about bka0711 coming over to visit me on June 1st. We're going to pig out on the Without A Trace episodes she hasn't seen and the Atlantis episodes I haven't seen, and I suspect, have a lot of David Hewlett and Eric Close viewing.
Have you seen the 'Stressed' music vid?
That is the vid that hooked bka0711on McKay and Atlantis. I was already a McKay ho because of his guest appearances on SG-1 so although I absolutely *love* that one and play it over and over, for me it was the double whammy of that vid and this one If I Wrote You (http://lierdumoa.livejournal.com/228779.html). I just thought the show looked so beautiful in that vid and the relationships looked moving and intense. And I do think that those two vids really do sum up what I love about the show - stressed McKay, and Weir et al struggling to stay alive and protect Atlantis.
Oh yes, me too on Atlantis rising from beneath the waves! Isn't that a stunning, stunning shot? I really did have tears in my eyes when that happened, and I love the love that they all have for the city, and how it's become another character in the show, like Zen in Blake's 7. I just really really want Daniel to see it, as I think it would be love at first sight for him too.
I was expecting Sheppard to be a character I just had to put up with and I've found myself liking him more and more with each episode; he's smart, he's witty, he's fallible, and he is very human and sweet, and all the moments you cite are lovely.
I'm gobbling the show up so greedily, I'm not sure my thoughts will be very coherent, but I'll certainly try to post something. I'm right with you on being a McKay and DH fangirl too.
It's wonderful to see so much fic. I'm not in the place yet where I want to read fic about the show; I'm too busy just watching it, but I'm thrilled to know how much there is out there. I may feel differently about Weir when I've seen all of S2, but even if she screws up, I think she's earned it for all the times when she made the right call. At the moment she's almost up there with McKay in my character love, and there isn't anyone I don't like. I have the warm fuzzies about the whole bunch of them right now.
I do think that Sheppard and McKay's bickering is completely adorable and deserves a lot of eye rolling from the grown ups on the team. It would be nice if Teyla and Ronon could have sex quite soon. :) Good for you on the McShep. Perhaps one day I'll see it too, but it may be something one has to read the fic to really get.
When a show makes me love each and every one of the characters, well. You can be assured I'll be fangirling til the end. Just like Angel and Firefly and NCIS and X-Files and SG1 and The Sentinel. *happy sigh*
It's that really good sense of a whole group of characters who care about each other and so make us care about them that makes a show a must see, isn't it? I was very choked up when Peter Grodin died, and the other deaths have all felt significant too. I particularly liked Weir having to send messages back to the families and this real sense of how painful this was to recipients as well as how hard for her.
Oh, and Lorne! He even came over from SG1, isn't that great? What a great continuity right there. And some more new supporting characters who are distinctive and vital and so unique. Did I tell you I love this show? *g*
I love the continuity between the two shows, like having the girl from Frozen at the beginning of Rising, and the references to SG-1 events. I'd love more crossovers between the two shows.
