I still like Sam and am still hoping for a good Sam and Teal'c episode one day. I don't like what the writers have done to her, but I do think Jack is as much to blame there as Sam is.

I'd love to see Daniel and McKay interacting. I do think McKay is the best thing that happened to Sam since Jolinar, and, as with Jolinar, gave her character a chance to show a whole new side of herself that would have been fascinating and I'm still really sorry she - and we - were robbed of the chance to see that developed more. But I think the thing I would most like to see on Atlantis at the moment is Daniel. And particularly Daniel and McKay getting to work on something together or getting stranded somewhere together. I think just puting those two together would create an instant classic of an episode.

I suspect that if one reads the McShep fic it's a lot easier to see on the show. But, so far anyway, the show has been enough to keep me absolutely riveted without the fic. I like all the characters, like the plots, love the set, and am just really enjoying it, in the same way I enjoyed early season Stargate, as a great team show.

I wonder if Stargate was the kid they adopted when they were feeling broody and Atlantis is the longed for baby they had themselves? *g* It is probably fun for BW & RCC to have a show where all the characters are their own and all the mythology, except for the Stargate itself, comes from their own imaginations instead of being hand me downs from other people.

I've only seen one S9 ep so far - although I have the first three DVDs ordered now - I think it was called Arthur's Mantle. I can't really judge Mitchell from that although I did like his Tigger-on-Crack energy. It's a bit of a problem when a show has been running this long to have that sense of wow, when Daniel, Sam and Teal'c have been doing this for so long. One can't really expect them to be excited about being invisible when it's their second or third time, but it's not that much fun for a viewer to see a lot of 'been there, done that' reactions to events that we want to find exciting. I think it's a real problem of logical character development - by which point, realistically - Daniel, Sam and Teal'c *are* going to be hoary old cynics who have seen it all before, against what a show needs to keep its sense of excitement. So, I do think they needed a character who could bounce around a little and who the others can roll their eyes about. I'll let you know what I think of Mitchell when I've watched all of S9. I think all of the DVDs are out by mid-July.

I haven't seen the all Vala ep. I've only seen Vala in Prometheus Unbound where I loved Vala and loved CB and loved the chemistry between Daniel and Vala but wanted to thwap MS hard with a stale loaf of bread for hamming it up so much I couldn't see the character for the actor. Much as I liked Vala, I can't imagine I'll love an episode all about her, because I've rarely liked a character all about one character yet, whether it's A Hundred Days, The Curse, or Desperate Measures. I think the only exceptions have been FiAD and Threshold. Characters going Through Stuff without other characters witnessing it just seems like a waste of time to me on the whole.

Most people are interesting with Teal'c too and I'd like to see Sam and Vala interacting, as the lack of female friendship on Stargate has really bugged me for years. There was never enough of Sam and Janet interacting for me. If Joss Whedon was writing Stargate, of course, we could hope for a fling between Sam and Vala, but as I think the Bridge writers would probably stand on a chair and scream if even asked to spell the word 'lesbian' I doubt we'll be getting that just yet. *g*

It's only telly, I guess, but I want it to be good telly.

A big 'Amen' to that. :)
